Satanic SoFlo

Modern, nontheistic Satanism in the Miami and Broward area.

Who WE ARE

Satanic SoFlo is a newly formed group dedicated to studying and practicing modern Satanic philosophy. This includes individual freedom, empowerment of the self, left-leaning social advocacy, and more. This group was created to bring a Satanic presence to South Florida, disprove the myths commonly associated with Satanism, and show others how the common folk can reclaim power in society. While we are not a chapter of larger Satanic institutions, our "brand" of Satanism is an agnostic spiritual path that allows people to take control of their life and become their own master, bowing to none.

A Brief History

Contrary to popular belief, modern Satanism is probably the farthest thing away from the social stigma it has gained over the last few decades. While the Satanic Panic sparked widespread fear, the practice actually popularized as an agnostic philosophy of empowering oneself by standing up for what they believe is right. Rather than worshiping Satan as a deity, he is used as a character archetype for one to adopt - the spirit of the eternal rebel.Though much of history made the name 'Satan' one of absolute evil, a particular group of writers and artists redefined that and created sympathy for the devil. These were the Romantics, who defied the new Enlightenment era in the 18th century and prioritized emotion over logic. The Romantics would write of Satan as a beacon of rebellion in the face of arbitrary authority, creating a genre of literature known as 'Romantic Satanism'.Fast forwarding to the 20th century, a resurgence of the 'romantic Satan' appeared via the Church of Satan, founded by Anton LaVey. LaVey redefined the romantic Satan as a way of becoming one's own god, taking control of their life with force and bravado. While popular for some, others saw the romantic Satan as one who becomes their own god via empowering themselves and their community to defy arbitrary authority in numbers. Groups like The Satanic Temple are of this mindset. These days, Romantic Satanism has largely adopted the moniker of Modern Satanism, switching from literary theme to spiritual path. This form of Modern Satanism prides both empathy and logic at the same time, and that the two must be used in tandem to stand up against oppression and empower the unsung in a community.

How Do Satanists Take Action?

Many Satanists exercise these values through good deeds, social work and advocacy, and adopting the Satanic mindset into daily life. Examples include:

- Having sympathy and understanding for those deserving of it
- Volunteering their time to the less fortunate
- Speaking out against oppression and unlawful use of power
- Joining with their community to inspire noble change

There is no hard definition of what a Satanist is and isn't. The uniting factor is the spirit of rebellion in the face of adversity.
